I helped people on Reddit hang out, read, and listen to live music together

Is Reddit a news aggregator, forum, or social network? Yes. As part of the product team, I made sure the creation flows flowed smoothly.

After introducing the full-screen video player in 2021, the viewing metrics exploded. However, there was a tiny problem

While people loved watching videos (substantial YoY growth in daily active viewers and video views), the content creation numbers could be improved. I was part of the team tasked with doing just that.

We decided to give video creators many new features to play with. I was responsible for the mobile experience

I built an extensive component library for the iOS and Android apps. This CreatorKit, as we called it, consisted of the original Dubsmash UI library translated into Reddit's design language.

Research showed that people love Reddit for its authentic, "real" content, and live video played a significant role.

To further facilitate the exchange of "real opinions" and interactions with "normal people," we redesigned the live video feature (a.k.a. RPAN) and improved the consumption experience.

To ensure the safety and security of live video streams, I interviewed the moderators and designed a streamlined mod experience (especially for mobile users).

The comment threads are an essential part of Reddit. To make them even more engaging, we added videos and images.

This was a team effort, as much of the design work had been done by my teammates before I took on the project. My task was to explore the user flows further, simplify them, and create prototypes for rapid research.

I left Reddit in 2022 to join Pitch, a company much closer to home (I mean this literally, as in the same time zone)

I had a great time working with all the talented folks, and I feel privileged to have worked on a platform loved so much by its users.
